Inquiry Learning - Celebrations

This is what we have been up to......

We have been learning about the Chinese New Year.

Our first job was to find where China is so we looked at our map of the world....

Then we read a book about Chinese New Year....

We learned that red is a lucky colour. People decorate their houses with red decorations

Children are given money or sweets in a red envelope.

At the start of New Year celebrations people clean their houses to get rid of any bad luck.

On the last day of the Chinese New Year, everyone carries beautiful paper lanterns and walk along the streets. This lights the way for the New Year.

We also found out that dragon dances are done to bring good luck and good fortune for the New Year. Chinese dragons are friendly.

We made our own class dragon..
Can you remember which dragons bring
more good luck, long ones or short ones?

Look at our colourful dragons.........

18.9.2014

Our Day…
This morning we had some special visitors.
Carson, Alex and Jordon came for a school visit.
Carson came with his Dad

We celebrated some ‘WOW’ writing by Ella

At Maths time we made a tally chart and a pictograph

A tally chart is a quick way of collecting and displaying data.
A pictograph uses pictures arranged in columns or rows to represent data.
Also known as a pictogram or picture graph.

Our question was....
"Who is your favourite  character in
Mrs Wishy-Washy"?

What does the pictograph tell us?
